Do you know how to make your razor last all summer long? It’s possible, with just a little bit of extra thought, you can make your favorite razors last! There’s nothing worse then having a big day planned at the pool and reaching down to shave your legs, only to figure out that your blade is dull or that it has started to rust. It happens. I’ve been there. But for the last few years, I’ve made my razors last for months and months by following a few simple tips, and you can, too!
This time of year is perfect for purchasing Schick women’s shave products since I know I need to return to a more regular shave routine. (I shared my 30 minute routine here.) I also find that they’re on sale and I can stock up for the summer. Rock your legs! There’s a super cute movie to give us ladies some inspiration. You can watch it here.
When I stock up this time of year, I want to make sure the razors last. Here’s three ways to make sure your razors last all summer.
1. Let your razor fully dry.
It’s really important to let your razor fully dry so that it will last longer. Most razors, like this Intuition, allow you to hang them in the bath tub. I love this, because I don’t really have to put much thought into it. It’s also handy for storage and keeps at least one thing off the shower shelf. If you have time, you can run a hair dryer for a few minutes to make it dry completely. But to be honest, most of the time I shake it out, blow on it and then hang it up in the shower. I also make sure to hang it in a place that doesn’t get a lot of water spray so it’s less likely to get wet when my hubby is taking a shower.
2. Buy disposables for travel razors.
I typically buy one product to keep at home and then I love these Hydro Silks to keep in my gym bag when I go swimming at the YMCA. They don’t feel like your normal “disposables”. In fact I use them for awhile. There’s no disposing of these babies, quickly. I treat them like a “regular” razor. At the same time, they’re not able to dry out completely because I throw them back into my bag. For this reason I buy the disposables for my trips to the gym, or when I travel to protect my “nicer” razor. I also am not out as much money if I lose them, which is more than likely to happen.
3. Soak your razor in alcohol, once per week.
I’ve been doing this and I do think it helps! There’s always a little bit of gunkiness that piles up on a razor from soap and shave gel. I put a little cup of alcohol and soak my razor in it once a week. I take it out the next day and rinse it before shaving. Easy!
