Yesterday I shared how you can snag 20 items for only $12 total at Kroger this week. I was excited to score some deals and also use my FREE coupons I received in the mail. At the same time I find counting items in the store complete craziness so I did what I could to avoid the over thinking nature of saving money. I sent my husband. 
He went out with my 3-year old and they did a great job getting all the items we needed!
As I shared on Facebook, my 3-year old came home, propped his feet up, took a swig of milk and then exclaimed, “Man, what a long day.” Apparently saving money overwhelms him. Ha!

If you’re wondering how in the world we’re going to eat this week with only this much food please keep in the mind the following:
- We have a cow in our freezer.
- We buy chicken when it’s super cheap and freeze it.
- We have a number of canned veggies from our garden.
- I typically stop later in the week for more produce.
- I buy most of our toiletries items at the drugstores.
- I make my own bread (sometimes.) and buy my baking items from an Amish Bulk Food store.
- I don’t buy snacks. I sometimes buy donuts.
- We don’t pay sales tax on most food purchases in Ohio. Woot!

Lynette, what is your stock up price on chicken? Do you buy whole, breasts or what? Thanks!
Hey Katie! It depends on the cut of the chicken. (This is from My Rock Bottom Checklist if you ever need a reference. http://www.cleverlysimple.com/my-rock-bottom-price-list/) I typically go for boneless skinless. I tried to cut the bone off a whole chicken once and totally grossed myself out. I wish I could do it to save money – but there’s some things that I’m willing to pay a bit more for. I’ll just work harder to get FREE toothpaste.

That being said. Lately I’ve been buying Gerber’s chicken which is totally hormone free and it’s around $2.99 a pound when it’s on sale for B1G1 FREE. I’m not sure if you have a Buehler’s close by, but they routinely have it on sale. I buy a bunch that week and freeze it. It’s a bit more than my rock bottom price, but it just tastes better if you know what I mean.
