This was my view yesterday. I was sitting on our deck, reading a book while the kids played in our little beach in the yard. We have a big yard for the kids to run around in, but it’s nice to have a few things for them to use to explore. We have a playset and a small pool. This sand box was the newest addition to our summer fun. And best yet, it cost only $25! We plan to wear it out!
We ventured last weekend to Kmart to snag the small turtle sandbox. My kids have been eyeing this one for awhile. Get it, eyeing. Because the eyes on this turtle are HUGE! They had the sandboxes in the lawn and garden center if you’re wondering. We took a full trip around the store looking for them – and lost about 10 minutes since the kids had to check out the entire toy aisle.
By the way, when buying something like this, we always tell the kids what our mission is when we get into the store. It made it so much easier to pull them away from all the toys because they were so excited to finally get a sandbox.
As soon as the sandbox was loaded, the four year old had to examine it. Anyone else have a very inquisitive child? He wanted to understand why the turtle didn’t have a brain. Ha!
It took about two bags of $1.99 play sand to fill the turtle! This is the small turtle sand box but as you can see, my four year old loved it. My two year old did as well but he didn’t stand still long enough for me to get a picture of him. So, if you’re wondering if this is too small for your kids, it’s not. It’s just the right size for them to dig and build. The sand is also nice and cool on his feet since we’re getting 90 degree heat here!
Here’s to having more fun things to do in the backyard! I love giving the kids the chance to explore at our home with great things like this. You don’t have to spend a dime in gas to get anywhere. Since we have about 12 more weeks of time that the kids can use this, I did the math to see if it’s going to save us money. That’s only $2.08 a week! (Plus that doesn’t even factor in next year and the year after that, and the year after that.)
If you want to get a sandbox like this one, check out KMart right here.
Do you have a sandbox at home?
