When my husband and I bought our home as a foreclosure in 2011, we never imagined how long all the projects would take. Call me naive, but I only came up with a few things that I felt the house would need. However, within a few months, and our first winter, it became very apparent that we would need new windows.
I’m happy to say that four years later, we finally made the investment of new windows. It was expensive. It was exhausting to interview company and after company until they all ran together. But it in the end, it was totally worth it. I no longer am staring at my deck through a gap in the window while I wash dishes. (Yes, it was that bad.)
But now it’s time for the fun part! With new windows, means that our kitchen needs new shades. Actually, we’ve never dressed them before. The window above my kitchen sink was just a lost cause and our only other window was a garden window. Now that we have two “normal” windows in their place, I’m ready to dress them up. (Which is your favorite? Click here and let me know!)
There is only one catch. I have young kids and I really do not want cords as part of my window dressings. The windows in my kitchen are two different sizes and they don’t lend themselves to the traditional panels I have on my other windows in my home. I’ve put off finding just the right thing because of my concern for the safety of my kids. The one large kitchen window is positioned right above my boy’s table they sit at for lunch, homework and crafts. I knew that I would absolutely have to get cordless shades to keep them safe while making my kitchen look bright and cheery.

UPDATE: I’m excited to share our new window treatments!
The first thing to know is that these are so easy to install. My dad and I did both of them in one hour. It would have been faster but the first installation happened to be over the kitchen sink with the ceiling just above the window. That made it a little tricky.
I absolutely love how they turned out! I love the light that comes in from our backyard and I didn’t want to lose that. The honeycomb cordless shades fold up tight so that I don’t miss any light during the day but can pull them down during the night for privacy.
The style of them is amazing. The blinds are lined with the fabric to make them feel custom and a natural part of our windows.
And most importantly, they’re safe! I never knew what to put at this window next to the kitchen where the kids play. I wanted the natural light, but also wanted to have privacy. The shades are a perfect addition and I don’t have to worry about the kids getting caught in the cords – because there aren’t cords!
