I love the Super Bowl for a couple of reasons. One, it’s an excuse to have my family over to hang out. Two, I love appetizers. And three, I love a good commercial. My husband would probably tell you that I left out the football game, but after spending so much time watching football this past season, I’m ready to just eat the food and watch the commercials.
One of the things about planning for a super bowl party is planning the food! Oh, the good food that can be had. Most years I make a big bowl of chili. This year I decided to change it up a bit with a nacho bar! My goal was to share with you how inexpensive it can be to create a great spread of food, without spending too much money. In fact, I bought enough to feed 8-10 people and spent less than $40! I headed to Save-A-Lot to buy everything I need. Their low prices and selection, made it an easy decision. You can easily save up to 40% just by shopping there.
The first key to spending less, is using what you have to make it all look cute. I grabbed a few small brown bags and a roll of white tape to make little footballs. All I had to buy at Save-A-Lot was a box of popcorn. Easy appetizer that looks good too! (The kids LOVE it.)
I also grabbed a a box of cocoa rice krispies. My goal was to make rice krispie treats shaped like a football. Ideally, you could use a cookie cutter. I didn’t have one, so I made a template in wax paper and cut out the rice krispies treats after they were cooled.
All it took was some easy two ingredient icing, and I had footballs! Cute, right?
And for the main course, a nacho bar! Easy, so easy. I grabbed everything I would want to top my nachos with and put them neatly on the table. This was only about half of the food. Everyone can build their own nachos, and the ingredients are inexpensive. (The only thing not pictured is the cheese. Someone reminded me of it after I took the pictures when they went to build their nachos. I forgot it in the refrigerator!)
Save-A-Lot has everything from the paper products to the drinks. I had some cute straws on hand to make everything come together. It’s all about the presentation and not about the price!
Creating the nacho bar took very little time, and you can chop up your veggies the night before your guests arrive. I’m all about the ease when entertaining so you can spend time with your guests.
Those little touches with the dessert and the popcorn, pull everything together for football fun without costing much at all! Just a box of cereal, marshmallows and some microwave popcorn for the win!
Print your grocery list here to use at Save-A-Lot for your big Super Bowl party! You can see what’s on sale in their weekly ad. For under $40 you can also entertain. And if you ask your guests to bring some goodies as well, you’ll spend even less!
