We bought a cow. It’s in our freezer. Actually, thankfully, we bought 1/2 a cow. I’ve never seen so much meat in one place in my life. I’m excited about the fact that I’ll be eating from one cow, # 8-1713 that has been grass fed. Our Jersey cow has provided us 200 pounds of meat. This includes, ground beef, beef patties, roasts of all kinds and lots of steak. Our Jersey cow cost us much less then buying meat at the grocery store and it’s much better quality. In addition to the cost saving measure we’re supporting our local farmer and our local butcher. In my mind, it’s a win win.
My first question while unloading this massive amount of meat was, do we have a generator? My mind immediately flashed to winter snowstorms and the power outages that accompany them. I was having visions of the most massive knee deep in snow cookout you’ve ever seen, sharing our Porterhouses and Beef Patties with our lucky neighbors. My brother insisted that the generator was ready to go and I was quickly relieved. Sorry neighbors.
I hope to share recipes created with our Jersey cow, #8-1713. Stay tuned.
