What a difference one year makes. This time last year I was heading to a Memorial Day Service where my brother was speaking. We all knew he would be gone to another part of the world, serving as part of the Ohio National Guard, within a few short months.
And today, he is. He’s there in Afghanistan, representing out great Country and making his big sister really proud.
To all our service members who’ve served and who are currently serving,
This year, even more then any year before, I am bursting with gratefulness to our service men and women who’ve given up their time with family and even their life, to protect and maintain our gift of Freedom.
I know there’s a lot of deals happening today – but I’m going to be spending my time this Memorial Day away from the computer, with my family. We’re headed to a parade and Memorial Day Service this morning and then a cookout where I plan to eat lots of coleslaw.
Thanks for your continued support and for the many prayers and thoughts you’ve sent my way through email and comments on Cleverly Simple about my brother. They mean so much, especially today.
You guys are the best!
… and just think. This time next year, my brother will be home!
Just read this online…. from a letter a soldier wrote to his family in case the unthinkable happened. He lost his life this past January when serving in Afghanistan. (credit.)
“There will be a child who will live because men left the security they enjoyed in their home to come to his,” Stacey wrote in his letter. “He will have the gift of freedom which I have enjoyed for so long myself, and if my life brings the safety of a child who will one day change the world, then I know that it was all worth it.”
