Cherry pineapple dump cake made with only four ingredients including crushed pineapple and cherry pie filling. This super simple dessert recipe makes a tart filling with a buttery crunchy top layer.

I can’t turn away a good dump cake recipe. Not only are they the simplest dessert to make as evidenced by this peach dump cake, but they are packed with flavor. The buttery crunchy topping with the tart cherries makes for a sweet bite that reminds me of a crisp. It’s called a dump cake because you literally just dump all the ingredients on top of each other and bake!

When I stumbled onto this cherry dump cake in my grandma’s recipe box, I knew I had to give it a try. One, my dad loves any cherry dessert like chocolate cherry cake or cherry kuchen so I wanted to make it for him. And two, I had everything I needed on hand since like this pound cake, this cherry pie filling dump cake only has four ingredients.
How to Make Cherry Pineapple Dump Cake

First, combine the can of pineapple (with juice) with the can of cherry pie filling. Place in a 9×13 baking dish. You can also sprinkle pecans on top of this layer if you prefer. I left them out this time.

Sprinkle one box of yellow cake mix on top of the cherry and pineapple.

Slice two sticks of butter and place on top of the cake mix.

Bake at 350˚F for 50 to 60 minutes. I went the full hour and it was a bit brown on top. It was fine, but next time I think I’ll test it at 50 minutes first, and then see if it needs more time.
This super simple dessert recipe is tart with just enough sweetness. Topped with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream, you have an easy dessert that’s hard to beat! Enjoy!
