Description

A twist on the traditional cut out cookie recipe – made with honey and topped with a sweet honey icing.


Ingredients

  • Cookie Dough:
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup light brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp. cloves
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup ground flax seed
  • Glaze:
  • ¾ cup powdered sugar
  • 3 t. honey
  • 3 t. milk

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
  2. Using a mixer, cream the butter and light brown sugar.
  3. Beat in the honey, egg and vanilla.
  4. In a larger bowl, whisk together remaining dough ingredients; add them gradually to the honey mixture.
  5. Stir in ¼ cup ground flax seed.
  6. Refrigerate the dough for at least 1 hour.
  7. Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
  8. Roll the dough 1/4 inch thick on a lightly floured surface. Cut out.
  9. Bake at 375 degrees for 8 minutes or until edges are starting to golden
  10. Make honey icing by combining the powdered sugar, honey and milk with fork.
  11. Spread icing onto each cooled cookie and let dry.
