Kings Island – May 2017

kings island roller coaster with kids

We surprised the boys with a trip to Kings Island for the day last week.  After a few weeks of super rainy – cold, read: COLD weather for spring we were looking forward to a day to get away as a family and enjoy some sunshine.  Our initial visit day was postponed because of weather and so we were so thankful that we didn’t tell the boys about it.  They would have begged to go to Kings Island no matter what the weather was.  As it was, our surprise worked in our favor to delay it a day and we had beautiful warmER weather.

We’ve been in Kings Island in the past, and each year it’s a bit more exciting since the boys grow a few inches and can ride just a few more rides.  This time of year, it’s also not as busy so it was the perfect time to go and enjoy the low ride times.

Here’s what I loved most about our time at Kings Island.

Mystic Timbers – My oldest got to ride the new roller coaster, and that was a big deal.  We headed to Mystic Timbers first since we were worried it would be a long wait later in the day.  As evidenced by his coat – it was earlier in the day when it wasn’t quite warm, yet.

Planet Snoopy – There’s a reason it’s won the golden ticket award 16 years in a row.  It’s a great place for kids and never disappoints.  I spent a lot of time there with our youngest while our oldest went on the bigger kid rides with my husband.

Height Ride Bands – Since my kids grow a few inches every single year, we always stop to get a ride band when we enter the park.  They measure the height of the kids so that there isn’t any confusion as to what rides they can ride.  This was especially important last year when one of our kids was just tall enough for many of the smaller rides.  It avoids confusion after waiting in line.

The Food – We took advantage of the fact we were near Cincinnati and enjoyed their La Rosa’s pizza while in the park.  Since you get two slices and two breadsticks with each meal, we were able to just buy two meals and enjoy them saving money on food.  We also made a stop at the Sweet Spot to pick up rock candy for the boys.  They were thrilled.

The Water Rides – Okay, I didn’t go for this one but my oldest (who’s 7) was all in.  We made him wait until it was his very last ride so that when he was freezing, we would be leaving.  He had a blast.  Thanks goodness for the sunshine. I was especially grateful after realizing I was going to get hit! See the video below. 🙂

The kids enjoyed the day.  It’s so fun to watch it all from your kid’s eyes.  The wonder – the smiles and the laughter!
