Life at the Farmhouse (Winter 2021)

By Lynette on February 25, 2021 · Leave a Comment

Well, hello there!

Winter 2020/2021 in Ohio has been quite the winter. Just like the rest of last year, it’s here and it’s staying around.

A few words come to mind when I think of this winter.

Snow.

Cold.

And the kids are back to school! Hallelujah!

But first things first… let’s travel back to November.

November rounded out the harvest. Boy, was it a looooooong harvest. And since the boys were homeschooling at home, they were along for the ride whether they liked it or not.

This year there were very very long lines at the elevator. We harvested beans pretty early in the season, but then there was a delay in getting the corn done. November ended up being a busy month as harvest dragged on. But as always, it’s an exciting time of year.

December brought our first snow of the season! The first snow is always exciting! We also decorated for Christmas, which is one of my favorite things to do. I love the wreaths that we put on our white farmhouse. It makes it so cheery!

For the fourth year, we ventured to a Christmas tree farm to grab our tree. The house smelled amazing, and we had a great time venturing to a new tree farm this year as our local one was closed. Oh, what fun it was to be outside in the fresh air – if only we had known that the cold days would be closing in!

With the kids still homeschooling, we had our own Christmas fun with a party at our house with the cousins! The kids had a great time, and we thoroughly enjoyed the unique day.

And thankfully, Santa and Mrs. Clause were not canceled in our small town. I’m always grateful for these little traditions we’ve been able to make and the people in our community who help make them happen.

January was cold and super gloomy. That’s all I have to say about it.

Then the snow arrived. And it didn’t leave…. all of February. I’ll be honest, I much prefer it to the muddy mess you can get in winter. It’s pretty to look out on a snowy, sunny day and enjoy the view around our house.

In true fashion, my brother showed up with the snowmobiles! He has a sleigh he can pull them on, which is great fun! I really enjoyed the snow this year and will be sad to see it go. The gloomy days of January are not my favorite, and so the snow brightened up our winter!

In January, we decided to send the boys back to school. It’s been a welcome change for our family to be more on a schedule. And while I’ve enjoyed the time with them at home, we were all ready.

They were very excited to be back with their friends. They don’t seem to mind the adjustments at school. They are going with the flow, and I’ve seen them brighten up with the socialization they’re now getting.

It’s crazy to think that last March, we thought the kids would be out of school for 2 weeks – and about one year later, they will finally be back full time.

Our family is ready for more normal. Our hearts need it, and we’re finding hope right now that we see the light!

Soon I hope to be getting my garden ready for spring and I’ll be sure to take you along for the ride. Oh, this spring is going to be glorious!

How has your winter been? Any projects you completed this year?
