Key Ingredients

  • Ground Sausage: This is the star of the show, adding a savory and slightly spicy flavor to the quiche. Make sure to cook and drain it before adding it to the pie shell.
  • Eggs: They bind all the ingredients together, giving the quiche its structure and a fluffy texture.
  • Whole Milk: This will make the quiche a bit richer and creamier. If you want a lighter option, you can use low-fat milk instead.
  • Shredded Mozzarella: It adds a gooey, cheesy goodness to the quiche. You can also experiment with other types of cheese, like cheddar or Swiss, for a different flavor.
  • Ground Pepper: A pinch of this will add a little kick to the quiche, balancing out the richness of the other ingredients.
  • Pie Shell: This is the base of the quiche, providing a buttery, flaky foundation for all the other ingredients. You can use a store-bought pie shell or make your own pie shell from scratch for a more homemade touch.

Equipment

  • Pie Plate – You’ll need this to press your pie shell into and to bake your quiche in. It’s an essential piece of equipment for this recipe.

How to Make Sausage Quiche

Preparation

To start, preheat your oven to 425˚ F. This will make sure that it’s at the right temperature when you’re ready to bake your quiche.

Step 1 – Prepare the Pie Shell

Take your pie shell and press it into a pie plate. This will form the base of your quiche and provide a delicious, flaky crust.

Step 2 – Cook the Sausage

Next, brown the ground sausage in a pan. Once it’s cooked, be sure to drain it well to remove any excess grease.

Step 3 – Prepare the Egg Mixture

In a separate bowl, combine the eggs and milk. Whisk them together until they are well combined. Then, add in the cooked sausage, cheese, and ground pepper. This will form a flavorful, hearty filling for your quiche.

Step 4 – Assemble and Bake the Quiche

Pour the egg and sausage mixture into the pie shell. Then, place the pie in the preheated oven and bake it for 35-40 minutes. You’ll know it’s ready when the top is brown and the eggs are set.

Step 5 – Serve the Quiche

Once your quiche is baked, remove it from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes. Then, slice it and serve it warm. It’s the perfect dish for a hearty breakfast or a satisfying brunch.

Expert Tip

To prevent the top of your sausage quiche from browning too much before the eggs are set, simply cover it with foil. This will allow the quiche to continue cooking without the risk of burning the top.

Recipe Variations

  • Ham and Cheese: Substitute the ground sausage with chopped ham and swap the mozzarella for cheddar for a more classic ham and cheese flavor.
  • Veggie Quiche: Add a cup of your favorite vegetables, such as bell peppers, onions, and spinach, to the egg mixture for a colorful and nutritious twist.
  • Spicy: If you like a bit of heat, use spicy sausage and add a dash of cayenne pepper to the egg mixture for a spicy, flavorful quiche.

What to Serve With

  • For a delicious brunch, serve your sausage quiche with a side of fresh fruit salad and a hot cup of coffee.
  • If you’re hosting a breakfast buffet, cut your quiche into small, bite-sized pieces and serve it on a platter with other breakfast favorites like bacon, mini muffins, and yogurt parfaits.
  • You can also enjoy this quiche for lunch or dinner. Simply pair it with a mixed green salad and some crusty bread for a satisfying meal.

Make Ahead Instructions

If you want to make this recipe ahead of time easily, I recommend making the pie shell the night before and keeping it refrigerated. Also, cook the sausage the night before as well and keep refrigerated. In the morning, whip up the filling using the already-cooked sausage and pour it into your prepared baking shell. Bake as directed.
