Our Trip On The Miller Ferry to Put-in-Bay

It’s no secret that our lives have been crazy busy lately with the farmhouse renovation.  So, a couple of weeks ago we left on a Friday morning to get away as a family.  It was a great time to unwind and spend time together without the sounds of hammers and saws surrounding us.

I had been to Put-in-Bay in the past but it had been a few years.  Put-in-Bay is a village located on South Bass island in Lake Erie.  The entire island is only 3.7 miles long and so it’s a very intimate island that packs in a lot to do as a family.

Friday morning we arrived to catch the Miller Ferry.  There are many ways to get to the island, but Miller Ferry has been my favorite.  It’s a nice, slow trip to the island.  You get to enjoy the view and the pace.  It’s funny, but as you travel across Lake Erie, it’s like you’re leaving your life behind you.  I immediately felt the stress disappear from my shoulders as we ventured towards the island.  The boys were especially excited to get to ride the ferry.

And we’re off! Looking forward to an awesome day at Put-in-bay. Getting there via @millerboatline is one of our favorite things about visiting. #putinbay #millerferry #hosted #ohio #travelblogger #travel #lakeerielove #mobsociety

Once on the island, we went to Perry’s Cave Family Fun center.  The boys got to play a fun round of put-put golf on their 18 holes.  It was the perfect time to go.  The weather was gorgeous and since it’s after Labor Day we had the entire course to ourselves.

In addition to put-put golf we also did Gem Mining.   This was definitely a highlight.  My boys are obsessed with rocks.  They have their own rock collection at our home.  So finding gems, was extremely exciting.

After a tour of Perry’s cave, we ventured over to the Butterfly House.  I had no idea how amazing the place would be.  Over 900 butterflies flying around was absolutely beautiful.  My son was obsessed and we spent almost an hour just at the Butterfly house.  Here he is with a butterfly on his finger.  While we were there, they were releasing some new butterflies and we got to help.

After our trip to Put-in-Bay we grabbed lunch and then were back on the Miller Ferry to head back to the mainland to venture to Cedar Point.  I can’t wait to go back to the island.  In fact, we’re already planning a trip for next summer.

If you’re looking for a unique getaway for your family, make sure to check out Put-in-Bay.  And of course, take the Miller Ferry on your way to the island!    You can follow Miller Ferry on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

Have you been to South Bass Island or any other islands on Lake Erie?
