This has been one of the most mild winters in Ohio that I can remember. But just because it’s been in the 40’s doesn’t mean it’s felt like a vacation. We needed to get away and have some family fun. We hopped in the car and headed to one of our favorite places to visit, Castaway Bay! The boys had a Friday off of school and so we packed our swimsuits and headed to where the weather is always 82 degrees!
This year we decided to upgrade our room to the Tarpon Suite and I’m so glad we did. I got an email a few days before our stay, and for only a small fee we were able to upgrade to a two room suite. That means the boys each had a set of bunkbeds and mom and dad had their own room too. It was totally worth it.
As always, the wave pool was a highlight for the boys. (Please ignore the pink puddle jumper. We forgot ours and borrowed one from a cousin. He didn’t notice! 🙂 ) I can’t say enough about how great Castaway Bay is for families with kids our age. My husband and I would each take a kid, since they wanted to do different things. Because of the size of Castaway Bay there is plenty to do, but it’s not so crazy big that you can’t find each other within minutes. I just love that!
My tip is to get there the afternoon before your night stay. Enjoy the park and then head to bed. The next morning, families like ours, who have kids up at the crack of dawn, can enjoy the water park as soon as it opens at 9am. (Check their schedule here.) We had the place to ourselves with a few other families before it got busy!
Of course a trip to Castaway Bay wouldn’t be complete without the arcade. I never let the boys play at the arcade, but at Castaway Bay we buy a card for $10 and let the boys go crazy. The boys – and their daddy, that is.
Since we were there in mid-March, the boys enjoyed making crafts the first night we were there. It was a nice relaxing thing to do before we headed off to bed.
Our last tradition on our trip is to head to Quaker Steak and Lube which is connected to the resort. We had a delicious lunch there before we made our way home!
It was such a great trip for us as a family. It just feels good to get away sometimes. Here’ s a few tips to keep in mind when you plan your trip to Castaway Bay:
- Make sure to arrive at least early afternoon the day of your first night stay. You’ll want to take advantage of the waterpark for at least two days!
- Pack a fan. Our room was near an elevator with it’s bay view. It was a bit noisy at night with everyone coming back to their room. However, we had brought a fan (it’s not our first rodeo) and the boys never woke once!
- With younger kids, take it easy. Our boys could only do the water park for two hours at a time before they were completely exhausted. We took naps, did crafts and allowed them to have some downtime. There’s lots of things to do at the resort!
- Bring your puddle jumpers! They have life vests available, thankfully. However, if you have them they’re nice for the kids to wear at the waterpark.
Because we had such a great time, I’m giving away FOUR day passes to Castaway Bay in a flash Giveaway! Enter right now as this giveaway will not last long. The winner will be chosen on the evening of March 25th and the day passes will be mailed on March 26th.
I was provided a one night stay for my family at Castaway Bay in return for an honest review. The opinions are all mine!
