Cut apples into small pieces. I like my apples fully cooked hence I cut them very small.
In a large bowl, mix 1/2 cup sugar, flour, cinnamon, and salt. Stir in apples.
Spread a tablespoon of flour at the bottom of the pie crust and poke holes with a fork. My grandma did. Place apple mixture into pie plate. Cut butter and place on top of apples. Cover with top pastry.
Bake at 40-50 minutes at 425˚ F.
Notes
If you like nutmeg you can add 1/4 tsp nutmeg to the apples before adding to the pie crust. Personally, I think it's grand without it. But if you ❤️ nutmeg, then go for it!
